Print Launch: Scott Stack

Scott Stack’s optical paintings combine disparate and sometimes competing visual codes. In his forthcoming intaglio print with Process/Process, Stack builds on his approach to repeated patterns, implied dimension, and unresolved pictorial planes. While his paintings have registered these by blending two colors within a tessellated shape, his print relies on linework to complicate our comprehension of light, shadow, and dimension.

In Scott’s words, “We are active participants in how we see. With the barest visual evidence we will construct a pattern and with any anomaly we will look harder to see if we can incorporate it into a new understanding of the pattern.” 

Scott Stack lives and lives and works in Oak Park, Illinois. His recent exhibitions in Chicago include 65GRAND (2025) and DeGroot Fine Art (2024).
